Orondo is an unincorporated community in Douglas County, Washington, United States. It is part of the Wenatchee–East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the area, although not a CDP, is about 500. The name was derived after a mythical Great Lake Indian and was first settled in the 1880s by J.B. Smith.
For years the area served fruit growers with such crops as apples, cherries, pears, and peaches. The area is growing quickly with the influx of retired couples and those looking for a vacation home along the banks of the Columbia River. With warm summers and relatively cheap utility rates have made Orondo an attractive growing river home community.
The town supports one 76 gas station/convenience store named "The Orondo Market Place", a Subway restaurant, a U.S. Post Office, and multitude of fruit stands along U.S. Highway 97. Desert Canyon Golf course is also located and features a restaurant and accommodations.
